The following poem, ‘Macaan iyo Qadhaadh’ or “Bitter and Sweet”, was composed by Axmed Ismaciil Diriye Qaasim, who died recently in exile. 

Consider the aloe – how bitter is its taste!
Yet sometimes there wells up a sap so sweet…
